Altar Bread | Christmas Wafers
Description
Christmas wafers, known in Polish as opłatek, are thin, unconsecrated wafers embossed with Nativity scenes and other images of Christ's birth. Families traditionally share them on Christmas Eve before the Wigilia meal: each person breaks off a piece of another's wafer and offers wishes for the coming year. It's a cherished tradition of forgiveness and blessing.

Ideas for Parishes
Many parishes hand out Christmas wafers after Mass during Advent, include them in parish mailings, or sell them as a small fundraiser. Placing each wafer in a decorative envelope makes a meaningful keepsake for parish families, homebound parishioners, and relatives far away.
Christmas wafers are made by Cavanagh. Order early, because they're seasonal and supply is limited.
